Discover a place where you can explore majestic glens, championship golf courses and ancient forests.

Perthshire’s foremost golfing destination is without a doubt Gleneagles, the only venue in the UK that can claim the distinction of having three championship courses. The sprawling PGA Centenary, the youngest of the trio, was designed by legendary player Jack Nicklaus, and was the venue of the 2014 Ryder Cup. It was the first time in 40 years that The Ryder Cup returned to the ‘Home of Golf’. The Queens Course offers its fair share of tricky moments whilst the classic Kings Course, laid out by celebrated golf course architect James Braid, has challenged the abilities of the world’s finest golfers.

Perth’s South Inch is said to have been the location of the world’s first golf course, played by Scottish monarchs during the 14th century when the city served as the country’s capital. Today you can test your swing on the North Inch Golf Course, a parkland course and one of the oldest in the country, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Fair City of Perth. You can also test your golfing prowess on the King James VI, a relaxing 18-hole tree-lined course in the middle of the River Tay only accessible via a walkway on the railway bridge.

A five-time winner of the Open Championship, James Braid designed a further four of Perthshire’s impressive courses, all of which embrace the natural contours of the landscape. These include the Rosemount at Blairgowrie – host venue of The 2014 Junior Ryder Cup – Alyth, Ferntower at Crieff, and Taymouth Castle at Kenmore.
